Finished my first sweater!

ok...it took me long enough. And I still have 5 others OTN, but I did it. I finished and it is wearable (I have finished other sweaters that were just NOT wearable and I had to frog).

Not a great pic - but I am wearing it to work today...and I have to say I feel Fabulous!

TGISeptember

Well Thank God it's September (at least for my squares project).....it means no cables for awhile, lots of knitting while watching both college and pro football *Go Penn State! Go Steelers!!* and quicker finishing....

I finished all the squares this week (CO'ed todays)....and they were great. I even knit a whole one at a meeting the other day and was very disappointed when I ran out of yarn 1/2 way through the meeting with no way to get more....:)

Will try to organize the squares thus far and take pictures and post them. I now have ideas for blankets/afghans for friends and family using the squares as I head into Holiday knitting season.

And Happy Birthday to my Peel Sis, Cran!!

Slowly but Surely

I found my cable needle. I don't *love* cables yet but I can slog through them. I did love the woven cables in relief.

No pics yet - will remedy that over the Labor day weekend. I heart the square I'm doing today- it is the blanket rib - very sturdy and textury. September's squares look much less daunting....

I really need to be patient and mark the squares and be sure that I know which ones I have completed.

A week Later

Well I have temporarily given up on doing the cables until I can find my cable needle or get a new one (I "organized" and I can't find the freaking thing!)...

So I went forward and backwards in the calendar (only in the month of August* which seems to be 90% cables!)...and did a few more squares.

Gate and Ladder Pattern (August 23)
Squares (June 18)* (I forgot that I did kinda skip around :))
Checkerboard (June 19)

Ok ....now my disorganization and/or procrastination is catching up with me. I *thought* I had marked each square with the pattern name. Ok...so I didn't or if I did, they didn't hold.

I will now do that...but I still have one or two squares that I can't figure out *which* pattern I used....sigh....will I ever learn?

Photos *will* come this week. I promise. My friend, Beth, has a blog "Confessions of a Disorganized Perfectionist". I think mine should be "Confessions of a Disorganized Procrastinator".

Day 3 - Six Stitch Braid

I havent finished yesterday's square yet but after watching Eunny Jang from Knitting Daily (make time for yarn every day), I think I understand the concept of cables and will start working on them when I get home.

The proposals are done and out and submitted, Brett Favre just signed with the Vikes, and I have some good food (from our local International Village) and some drinks waiting for me....life is getting good again.

Day 2 - Not as successful

Just as I thought....starting this project in the middle of getting out 9 research proposals was going to challenge me...I *did* start the nine stitch braid square but didn't finish. I need to go through a cables tutorial today to finish as the next few days are also cable-related.

I was so exhausted from work that I haven't taken any pictures yet....

more to come. Let's just say that the universe is telling me something :)

If anyone is a whiz at cables...please let me know!

Julie and Julia for Knitting

Going to do a 'Julie and Julia' with knitting. One square a day for 365 days using the '365 knitting stitches a year perpetual calendar' by Martingale and Co. First day's square - the 'seeded rib'. (Sunday August 16).

Today's square - Nine Stitch Braid - which means I need to learn cables FAST! Is this a good idea? For me, yes - I need to have a goal and need to *really* devote some time to my knitting. This will make me knit every day and also will make me accomplish something. I can make the squares and use them to make afghans - purses- donate some to charity...LOTS of things. I haven't been a "product" knitter lately (actually finishing WIPs)....more of a process knitter. I really want to start finishing some items.

KIP (Knitting in Public for the newbies)

A Knitting in Public story - I was waiting for my friend to meet me before the Barry Manilow concert last week. I told her to meet me in the hotel bar across the street from the venue. I, of course, brought my knitting. I was standing (it was packed) near the bar with a drink and a baby blanket and circs in my hand...one girl looked at me and almost fell over - she said that she had never seen anyone knit in a bar....

There is a first time for everything....

I will be taking my February lady sweater on circs to Dave and Busters tonight while I wait for my college roommate and her daughter :)

Wow...I've been published

I've had articles published before, but not about my love for knitting and fiber...

This is something I've really longed to do...
